Credit is not a limited resource.

An event photograph rarely manages to fit everyone who made it happen. The caption has more room.

The thank-you is the visible part.

When I shared Merin Abraham’s post about EO’s 2025 RIE, my response was a thank-you to her and her team. It was a simple acknowledgment of work done together. That spirit matters during the planning as much as it does afterwards.

A show involves organisers, agency teams, production specialists, venues, performers and many other people. Each sees a different part of the job. The quality of the final experience depends on how well those parts connect.

Be clear about ownership while the work is happening.

Sharing credit works alongside clear responsibility. Agree who is designing, who is supplying, who is approving and who is calling the show. Identify the places where one team’s decision changes another team’s work.

A screen change may affect a content file. A programme change may affect a performer’s cue. A late arrival may affect hospitality and registration. Give those handovers an owner and a clear way to confirm the update.

Make recognition specific.

“Great team” is kind. Explaining what a person contributed makes the appreciation useful. Credit the idea, the careful coordination, the production skill or the problem someone helped resolve. It shows that you were paying attention.

The same applies to a portfolio. Say what your agency did and where a specialist partner contributed. Label photographs, renders and design studies accurately so the reader understands what they are seeing.

Keep learning after the applause.

A debrief is another opportunity to recognise the work. Ask which handovers were smooth, where people had to improvise and what should change next time. Give people room to explain their part before deciding what happened.

Clear ownership helps the job happen. Generous credit makes the collaboration worth repeating. Both deserve a place in how an event business operates.

There is usually enough applause to go around. Also enough cables, but that is a separate conversation.
